If we need to know about Mokokchung then it is imperative to be aware that this particular place holds a very vital position in the state Nagaland.  Ever heard of the Naga Hills? Then this is one of the first one of it, which became a site; here the Assam Rifles were led by the Britishers.  The best time to visit this place is during the Christmas, New Year and also some of their local festivals like Moatsu and Tsungremong. If you ask about the climate then the answer to it is – “Pretty Awesome”!

There is always a mild climate prevailing over this area throughout the year and also you will be having mist in the rainy months. Not to mention “QUITE ROMANTIC”.   Therefore, this is the place where you should surely visit in between October to June.

Now the question that arises is how to reach this place? The answer is pretty easy. Both airways and roadways!!   There are two highways connecting to this land. Also, the two airports from Dimapur (212km) and Jorhat (105kms) are connected towards this place.

There are mostly six places that you can go to for knowing Mokokchung in a better way. We will be seeing what are they?!

1. Longkhum:

It is a place situated 12 km away from the city and is famous for its handlooms and handicrafts.  It is the house of Rhododendrons on the hills. One visit to this place will never be enough for you as it is going to mesmerize you to the best possible manner.

2. Ungma Village :

It is one such village where the oldest and largest of the Ao tribes are available. Here you can have a view at the culture and heritage of the Ao tribe which they have preserved for years and years with care. It is located 3kms away from the city.

3. Chuchuyinlang Village :

These caves have a history to tell. The Ahom king took shelter in these caves. It is situated in between valleys and rivers which obviously gives a very obvious imagination that the view out here is worth a watch.

4. Langpangkong caves :

5. Molung village :

This is the village from where Christianity was brought entirely to the land of Nagas. This place is also famous for a litchi tree which was planted by an American missionary. This place is 36kms away from the city.

6. Caves :


Caves

There are many caves in Mokokchung apart from Langpangkong caves. Those are mostly unexplored caves in this area. They are Caves of Peren, Mongzu Ki and Fusen Kei. These caves are approximately 82kms away from the city.

Other than all the places mentioned above, you can also get a peek of some other places to enjoy your stay there. They are – Mission Compound, Eiben Memorial Tower, Soyim Aonglengden and Sungkotenem Park Lake.

If you are interested to know about the food that is available to gorge on at this place then, to be frank, no alcohol is easily found in this area. Only rice beers are available with ease. The foods are best in Continental, Naga cuisines and Chinese.

The only route is Via rail, it takes 16hr 21mins en-route Dimapur.
