Assam’s air is famous for the fragrance of fresh tea leaves but during the month of June, we also can smell the incense sticks which burn day and night consistently four days straight for the world known Mela – The Ambubachi Mela!!

Maybe most people have or haven’t heard of the Kamakhya Temple which belongs to one of the oldest Shakti Piths of our mythology. Shakti Piths if we ask about are the ones which are the imperative shrines and pilgrimage of Shaktism.

There are about 51 Shakti piths out of which Kamakhya Temple turns out to be the oldest of them all. During this time of June (or summer time if we may say), there is a mela held in this Shakti temple – Kamakhya, to celebrate the menses of the Mother Earth (also we can say that to celebrate the best natural thing that happens to a woman).

Goddess Kamakhya is the Goddess of Desire and so when you start believing her you get the achievement of all the desires in you. That is how powerful she is!!

One of the significant facts you should know while coming to visit this meal is that it is being celebrated for the annual menstruation of the Goddess of the Kamakhya Temple. The temple is said to have gained immense power during this period of time. This year the Ambubachi Mela is going to be held between 22-25th June (which you are cordially invited by Assam and Maa Kamakhya).

Ambuvachi which is a Sanskrit word meaning “the issuing forth of water” is the word from which Ambubachi has been derived. Other names which you might get familiar with are Amthihsua, Ameti, Amoti, and Ambabahi.

During these 4 days of the mela, the gate remains closed as no devotees are allowed to get inside the temple to offer their prayers but can surely pray outside like all the tantrics that visit to practice various rituals during this occasion and also display their psychic powers which are a sight to view. After the 3rd day, the temple is cleaned and then the devotees are allowed to enter into the temple. Then they can offer their prayers to the Goddess.

There are two types of Prasad (Rakta Bastra) that are provided to the devotees of Maa Kamakhya during Ambubachi. They are –

  • Angabastra  and ;
  • Angodak

An experience worth :

We do not see any reason as to why you shouldn’t be a part of such a wonderful experience, because this is the celebration of power, of being a woman and most of all honoring a “mother”. We should always find a way to care and love a mother and during this Ambubachi Mela is the best way to do so.  Come join us in this wonderful journey of Maa Kamakhya with us (SAFAR APNA) to take you to an experience of a lifetime and help you with attaining all the desires of life.
