It was India’s bowling attack led by captain Kapil Dev that did all the damage. Kapil Dev and Roger Binny shared 5 wickets between them as India bowled England out for 213 in 60 overs.
India completed a comfortable chase with Yashpal Sharma and Sandeep Patil scoring a half-century each. The win at Old Trafford gave India their ticket to a maiden World Cup final.
1975: India lose their 1st World Cup match
India played England in the first-ever World Cup match. England made use of fine batting conditions at Lord’s to post a then world record total of 334 after Dennis Amiss’ hundred.
