This village is in East Khasi Hill district of Meghalaya state in North East India, and is only 90 km from Shillong.

- The Cleanest Village – The moment you entered this village, you will be amazed by garbage free clean roads; you will rarely see even dry fallen tree leaves on the roads. There are bamboo dustbins all around, all houses have toilets, plastic bags are banned and smoking is restricted. People living there, took the responsibility to sweep roads and plant trees.
- Khasi Tribe – People residing in this area belongs to Khasi community, which is live example of Women empowerment. The children get their mother’s family name. And the family property and wealth is passed on to the youngest female child of the family. Literacy rate is above 90% and agriculture is the main occupation in this village.
- Living Root Bridge – This is the main attraction of the village, and trust you would be amazed to see the beautiful bridge above the water stream. The tree roots make the pathway, making easier for villagers to commute.
- Sky View – The locals of the area have constructed around 85 feet tower, which is made of bamboo. From the top of this tower, you can have bird eye view of the village as well as landscape of Bangladesh on the other side.
- Waterfall – This the perfect place to enjoy quality time with your loved ones. The sound of waterfall takes you more close to the nature; it’s relaxing and very pleasant.

It is popular tourist destination and is very well connected to cities like – Shillong and Cherrapunji by road. The nearest airport is at Shillong, which is having direct flights from Kolkata. And you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Mawlynnong. If you are planning by rail, then the nearest major railway station is at Guwahati, which is around 172 KM. From Guwahati, you can opt for a taxi or bus to reach the village.
