Water being the basic requirement is considered as a blessing to human race. Like air for breathing, water is for living. After air, water is the most essential requirement for our survival on earth. Every living thing may it be human, animals or plants needs water. It is stated that 2/3rd of the earth’s surface is covered with water which eventually makes it an essential element responsible for life on earth. Water plays an important role rather than just satisfying your thirst and regulates body’s temperature. It helps in maintaining balanced moisture in the body.
Importance of water
- As it is said earlier that water helps in maintaining moisture in the body which prevents sensitive areas such eyes, nose and lips to dry and actually them to work smoothly
- Water is involved in every bodily function. Like saliva in the mouth is the first step needed for digestion and water is the prime factor required for it, further it helps lungs to breathe properly keeping them moist enough, especially in changing weather
- Water helps in excretion of waste products from the body. It prevents constipation and helps to keep the body hydrated in case of diarrhea
- Body loses water by sweating and digestion therefore, it is very much important to rehydrate the body again and again by drinking fluids and eating food that contains water
- Water helps in the circulation of blood from one part of the body to the other without any contractions and it also increases the efficiency of red blood cells to carry oxygen therefore water intake should be accordingly so that body can carry certain functions
- Being hydrated is considered as an important factor in pregnancy as well. A would be mother should have enough fluid in the womb for the well being of the baby as the baby is surrounded by water(fluids) in the womb which helps them to receive the required nutrients from the mother’s body/ diet
- Psychologically it is said that water helps the body to recover from mental and physical fatigue. It helps in reducing stress, anxiety and depression. It also helps you to regulate body temperature
- Water is considered as the main lubricant in the joint cells and helps in preventing joint pains (back pain)
- Drinking adequate quantity of water can prevent heart attacks
Adequate water intake
As it is stated above that our body looses water time and again through sweating and digestion process. Therefore, our responsibility for healthy body is to have required amount of water to re-hydrate it.
For healthy body it is recommended to have about 3.7 liters of fluid. Apart from this water can be easily obtained from the food and beverages we eat.
Factors that influences an immediate need for water
- Daily exercises or any activity which makes you sweat encourages one to have water. It is said to have water before, during and after the workout session to retain the minerals you lost while sweating.
- Environment plays an important role which influences one to take water according to the weather. Like hot and humid weather forces one to have more and more of fluid to keep them hydrated.
- On the basis of health issues of an individual’s like with children it becomes quite difficult to develop a habit of drinking water after intervals of time which causes them constipation. To avoid such issues they should be well informed about the benefits of water.
- Pregnancy and breast feeding is also a reason which influences mothers to have water to stay hydrated. As the water intake of the mother will actually helps the baby to prevent dehydration.
Ways to save water
Today is the time when we are facing water scarcity in various regions. And humans are the only one to be blamed for this. Our prime responsibility should have been to save as much water as we can. But instead we are wasting the most precious thing required for the survival and heading towards our end. We should teach everyone to save this blessing and work to promote it with various ways:
- One should turn off the water while brushing the teeth
- Install water saving shower-heads and toilet flush
- Saving rain water for re-use
- Take short showers
- Avoid tap leakages
- Steam vegetables and avoid food wastage
These small practices can ensure a better future. So why not work for it and cherish the blessing we are blessed with.
